I hate their music, but at least I know why the Beach Boys are named what they are...

San Diego.

Wow. I've been to California before... like twice. I've been to the ocean before... Once. In early June. The water was freezing, and it was overcast and borderline downpour. I was dating that cared more about toe rings than me.

This time, however—Wow. I am in San Diego right now on work. A couple that I know is getting married in the San Diego temple, and they flew me down to be their videographer. Fortunately, my friend, Paul, lives 10 minutes away. So, I came down early and we've been living it up.

I've been here for just over 24 hours, and already we've gone to the beach 3 times, snorkeled with exotic fish, snorkeled with leopard sharks, went and saw the Dead Sea Scrolls on exhibit, and, as dumb as it sounds, drove on some of the coolest freeways in this country. We are planning on going to Mexico, shooting big guns (Mexico and the guns are not related, how racist of you to think such a thing), We're going to go surfing, go to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, Going to see the horse races, see an Angels and Airwaves concert, and of course, In-N-Out burgers multiple times.

I came down here to work, and instead I am getting a SWEET vacation before I head back to the drudgery of school. Actually, school for me is more like arts and crafts time in daycare. This fall I have the following classes:

Figure Drawing
Advanced Flash
Media Literacy
TV Commercial Production
Graphic Design
Creative Concepts 2 (the concepting class for the creative track of Advertising at BYU)

My challenge with school, unlike most college students, is figuring out how much to charge people for completing projects for them, which just so happens to also be my assignments, tests, and semester finals.

Dang, it feels good to be a creative.

Bourne Ultimatum: title bouts and advertising

So I did it. I went and saw the Bourne Ultimatum. And, let me just say that I was quite impressed.

Granted, I am a pretty big fan of the "Bourne" series. Most people felt that the first one was good, but that the second was too laden with shaky camera movements. In my humble opinion (albeit RIGHT opinion, given my experience in film and what not), the shaky camera movements were not over the top. In fact, I felt they only added to the feel and chaos that would normally ensue in any given cuff-to-cuff fight. Maybe you've been in a brutal fight that was all calm, easy, and would be pleasantly expressed through a still camera on a tripod. Maybe. MY guess is, however, that you haven't even been in that sort of fight. So, don't judge the director's decision to use frantic camera movements. I mean heck—you got the idea, right? Big fight; Big Fighters; Big Finish for Jason Bourne. Tada!

Now, with regard to the subject of this entry.. I would like to pit Jason Bourne against other "heroes." In my opinion, Jason Bourne is America's comeback to James Bond... We've got to one-up the British, and one-up we have.

DING

(the first round starts)

Jason Bourne and James Bond (notice the similarities in their initials?) enter the center of the ring.... After a few words of banter back and forth, James bond sets down his Martini, excuses himself from a game of poker in which he is engaged (but first has to make a few remarks seeping with sexual innuendo), and looks to his watch for some sort of tool to beat Jason.

In the mean time, Jason has taken the ropes from the turnbuckles, broken a leg off the stool from his corner, broken the teeth out of James Bond's Manager (Q), embedded them in the leg of the stool, tied the rope around it, and fashioned a home-made harpoon that will trigger as soon as James Bond comes near. James would narrowly escape death from the tribal contraption that Bourne has made, only to be engaged in fast hand-to-hand combat with Bourne. James, being more debonair and less coordinated, cannot keep up with Bourne's speed, and down he goes. Bourne would then have just a few minutes to ask Bond who he worked for, and what they wanted with him (Bourne), before Bond died of internal bleeding.

DING DING DING

Winner by KO - Bourne.

Now, onto my next subject.. Bourne and Advertising:

Seeing as how I went to the movie with members of the BYU Advertising Lab, we discussed possible scenarios wherein a company or organization could really reach a large audience by sponsoring a new Bourne movie. We decided that since the entire series hangs on Bourne searching for the truth, it would be completely fitting for the Church to sponsor the 4th movie, and have him end up meeting with the missionaries, and get baptized.

The name of the movie, you ask? The Bourne Exaltation.

Out With the Old, in With the "All Files Lost."

A word to all web developers:

"Do not accidentally delete your hosting settings in your web admin." Try as you may to convince yourself that it is fun, socially "COOL," or even a mark of a daring web admin who likes to flirt on the edge of disaster, the truth remains— it'll suck really bad when it happens.

Here's why: You'll lose everything. All of your precious hard work = gone. Now, fortunately, I had put off building a fancy-pants website for my personal business, Morris Creative. Truth be told, I had a premonition that this was going to happen... Okay, so not really. The fact is, I spend so much time working on projects for clients that my own personal site always gets neglected (I was the type of person in elementary school that spent so much time taking care of other kids' gigapets or digipets that my own died. Fortunately, all you had to do was push a little button with a paper clip to reset it and start with a fresh, baby digipet).

What am I trying to get at? I'm mad I lost all of those files. Computers are like golf: When things are going well, they bring out the best in you, and motivate you to do better. When things go wrong, your worst characteristics surface and you want to pull out your hair.

Oh well though. At least I still have my precious blog. Even server crashes aren't above following constitutional rights regarding freedom of speech.
